Is home insurance required in Florida? +
Florida law doesn't require homeowners insurance, but mortgage lenders almost always do. Given Florida's hurricane exposure, adequate coverage is strongly recommended regardless of whether you carry a mortgage.
Does my homeowners policy cover hurricane damage? +
Most Florida policies cover windstorm damage from hurricanes, but flooding caused by storm surge or rain is excluded. A separate flood policy — which FEI can also help you obtain — is recommended for flood-prone areas.
What's the difference between condo and homeowners insurance? +
A homeowners policy (HO-3) covers both the structure and contents of a single-family home. A condo policy (HO-6) focuses on your interior unit and belongings, since the condo association's master policy covers the exterior building.
